Warhol's sacrum and profanum

The realization of the presentation was possible thanks in large part to the involvement, dedication, and expertise of the students at the Witold Pilecki State School of Higher Education in Oświęcim. Inspired and guided by Marek, they prepared a multimedia presentation about Andy Warhol (1928-1987) and the motifs of the Sacred and the Profane that permeate his artistic output.

Commonly associated with Pop Art and consumerism, Warhol’s artistic output is a complex phenomenon, full of ambiguity and binary oppositions. The same could be said about his life in which religion played a domineering role, though not explicitly. Warhol’s ethnic origins as well as his family background exerted a profound influence on his art and can easily be seen in his various works, and with a particular intensity in the last decade of his artistic life.
